FAQ
Floating
-
Welcome! If this is your first time floating with us, please arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your scheduled float session. Upon arrival, you will need to complete our float waiver.
Fill out your waiver in advance
You will be given a tour of the studio and shown to your float room. One of our awesome Float Facilitators will instruct you on how to use the amenities in your float room and how to prepare yourself before getting into the tank. To get the most out of your first session, please arrive early to ensure you have time to ask questions. Your session will begin at your scheduled float time.
How to Prepare:
• Avoid caffeine for 3-4 hours before your float.
• Avoid shaving or waxing for at least 6 hours before floating.
• Try to eat a light meal 60-90 minutes before your float.
• Make sure to use the washroom before your session so you are not distracted.
• If you wear contacts, bring a case, or take them out before you come.
• Please remove all jewelry. -
Nope! You float ‘au naturel’.
We provide towels, Vaseline, shower slippers, earplugs, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and everything else you may need for your float. All you need to do is show up ready to relax. :)
The only thing you may want to bring is a case for your contacts and any items you need to get ready post-float (ie. Hair Gel, Skincare Products, Etc.).
-
You cannot float if:
• You are an epileptic and your epilepsy is not under medical control.
• You are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
• You have a recent tattoo (within 4-6 weeks), or large open skin wounds.
• You recently dyed your hair (within 1 week) - unfortunately, it dyes our water.
If you have any other concerns, please check with your health care provider.
-
Yes! Because of the anti-gravity effect, many pregnant women report the reduction of aches and pains on the spine and joints. In addition, women have expressed special “bonding” with the baby in the second/trimester as they become hyper-aware of any movement within the womb. We do, however, strongly recommend consulting with a physician before coming in.
-
People with claustrophobia consistently report no problems floating. You have complete control of your environment, and you can get in and out of the tank as you please. You are also more than welcome to float with the door open, and we even have a small floating light to bring inside (by request).
-
It may come as a surprise to our clients but float tank water goes through a treatment process similar to drinking water. Once the floater has exited the tank, the filtration system is turned on. The entire body of water is then filtered a minimum of 3 times before the next float session.
Stage 1 Pumping: When the filtration system is turned on, the water is pumped out of the float tank cavity.
Stage 2 Large Material Filtration: First, the water passes through a fine screen to remove large particulate matter e.g. hair or small earplug pieces.
Stage 3 Micro-filtration: After larger particulate matter is removed, the water is then pushed through a 1-10 micron filter to remove any additional suspended material or large bacteria.
Stage 4 Disinfection: Immediately following the filtration stages, the almost-clean-water passes through a UV light. As the UV light passes through the water, the energy (wavelength) is absorbed by the microorganisms and breaks down pathogens’ DNA. DNA is the code that tells the organism how to reproduce. Without being able to reproduce, it cannot cause infection or illness.
In addition to UV light treatment, hydrogen peroxide is added daily to the water to assist with disinfection. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down microorganism cell walls, removing any potential threat from undesirable pathogens. Hydrogen peroxide is a non-toxic chemical alternative to chlorine or bromine, is completely water soluble, and does not produce harmful residues or gasses.
Stage 5 Water Quality Testing: To ensure that the filtration and disinfectants are functioning, water quality tests are conducted by the float specialist on duty. The tests include: hydrogen peroxide levels, pH, alkalinity, and temperature. We also regularly measure the specific gravity and tank water depth to ensure you will float with ease!
We are also inspected on a random basis by public health to ensure our tanks are meeting their standards.
-
Yes - Our tanks are saturated with 1,000 pounds of Epsom salt. Such a high density of Epsom salt in the water creates a solution more buoyant than the Dead Sea allowing you to float on your back without fighting gravity.
-
After you climb inside the tank, you will find a comfortable position lying on your back. You can place your hands beside your body, above your head, or on top of your chest/belly. And then you float!
-
No. Last time we checked, humans cannot breathe under water.
-
We strongly recommend that first-time floaters wear the earplugs to prevent the salt water from sitting in your ear canal during your float. If the salt water is not rinsed out correctly, there is a possibility that the salt will crystallize in the ear, and could result in ear infections. However, we do have some experienced floaters who choose to float without earplugs. In the event you choose to float without the ear plugs, we offer a 50/50 vinegar/water ear rinse that flushes the salt water out of the ear canal during your post-float shower.
-
The float itself is either 60 or 90 minutes long, but you'll need time to shower before and after. So expect to be here for at least 90 minutes to 2 hours. We also have a post-float lounge with complimentary tea and some books. So no need to rush back into reality, stay as long as you like.
If you are interested in even longer float sessions, contact us directly and we can help you out!
-
Soft music will fade in to let you know when your session is over.
-
No problem! Many people fall asleep in the tank, but the water is so buoyant that you stay afloat.
-
Not really. This depends on your floating intention. Some people prefer to float in the morning to set the tone for the day, to manage pain, or to “come down” off of a night shift. While others prefer to float in the evening to de-stress after a busy day or help prepare them for sleep. Or, some people pop-by to float if they are applying visualization techniques to enhance athletic performance or to think more deeply about school/work challenges. Finally, some people float whenever they have some free time!
-
Whatever “floats” your boat. But seriously, it really depends on you and what works for your schedule. We consider floating to be a maintenance therapy, so floating on a regular basis is considered better. That could be a few days a week or once a month. Our memberships are by far the best option for consistent floating. You can save money per float session and share this discounted rate with friends if they come along with you!
-
Yes, you are more than welcome to get out of the float tank at any point during your session. However, we do not offer discounted floats for sessions shorter than 60 minutes.
-
Although we recommend complete sensory deprivation for the full experience, we can play music for the duration of your float session. Just let us know when you book your appointment. If you want to bring your own audio device, let us know prior to booking so we can put you in the proper tank (The Pro Float Cabin).
-
No.
-
We ask that people wait at least 7 days after dyeing their hair. If you notice that you still have colour washing out after the 7 days, we ask that you wait until the dye has bled out completely. The dye can contaminate the water or stain the inside of the float tanks. Please consult your hairstylist before floating if you are unsure if the high concentration of epsom salts will compromise your hair quality.
-
Yes! Take the same precautions as if you were going swimming in a public pool.
-
In our experience, children under the age of 12 have a difficult time floating (they don’t want to stay still, float tank is too dark, or they splash salt water in their eyes etc). If you think your child would enjoy or benefit from floating, we may recommend that you stay in the float room with them while they adjust to the experience.
-
No, our float tanks are designed for one person only. Since we have 3 float tanks, we can have up to 3 people floating at any one time.
-
Depending on our schedules, Zee Float staff try to float once a week. If we can float more frequently, we will!
-
Floating has been around for over 50 years, and has published research to back it up.
-
All of our sessions are appointment based. Purchase your credit online and then visit our online scheduler to select a room and a time. You are also more than welcome to book your appointment over the phone.

Due to its expanding properties, heat therapy is not advisable for anyone with an acute injury that has occurred in the last 72 hours. It should not be used on any injury that’s particularly swollen or bruised as it could lead to increased swelling
Anyone with a heart condition, high blood pressure, diabetes or kidney problems
Memberships
-
Our membership works a lot like a gym membership. Your credit card will be charged the membership rate on a monthly basis until you tell us otherwise. After each charge, a single "float credit" will be added to your Zee Float account each month. These credits can be used to book a float session in any available room for any available times. -
No. There is no commitment. You can cancel at any time.
-
Credit cards are required for the auto-renew membership. If you don't have a credit card, we have package options that are a great alternative.
RMT Massage
-
Massage therapy offers numerous benefits for the body and mind. Firstly, it helps to alleviate muscle tension, reducing stiffness and promoting relaxation. Additionally, massage improves blood circulation, which aids in delivering oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and removing toxins. This can lead to faster recovery from physical exertion or injuries. Moreover, massage therapy can reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, and enhance overall well-being. It has also been known to relieve pain, improve joint flexibility, and boost immune function. Whether you seek relaxation, pain relief, or improved athletic performance, massage therapy provides a holistic approach to wellness.
-
Yes, massage therapy can have significant benefits for mental health. Through the release of endorphins, the body's natural "feel-good" chemicals, massage helps to reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression. It promotes relaxation, improves sleep quality, and enhances overall mood. Massage therapy also activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which helps to counteract the effects of chronic stress and promote a state of calm and relaxation. Additionally, the physical touch and human connection during a massage session can provide emotional support, reduce feelings of loneliness, and improve overall mental well-being.
-
Absolutely! Massage therapy is well-known for its ability to alleviate physical pain and discomfort. By targeting specific areas of tension and using various techniques such as kneading, stroking, and applying pressure, massage helps to relax muscles, release knots, and reduce inflammation. This can provide relief from chronic pain conditions, such as back pain, neck pain, and migraines. Massage therapy also promotes the production of endorphins, natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body, which can further alleviate pain sensations. Whether you're experiencing muscle soreness from intense workouts or dealing with chronic pain, regular massage therapy sessions can be an effective and drug-free approach to managing and reducing physical discomfort.
